Taking cues from Ann of Green Gables

A favorite quote written in crayon

scrawled out on discarded school leaflets of many shades

“Be glad you live in a world that has Octobers”

quotes the adopted red head from Prince Edward Island

I have never been to that cool lovely island up North

but I have lived in Upstate New York my entire life.

Taking my cues from both Anns {without the “E”}

I am glad for Octobers

I name the reasons one by one:

like falling leaves,

like apples on the ground,

like moving swirls of morning fog

Starbucks on the deck in the morning

Pre-K homework on the deck in the afternoon

Chianti wine on the deck at 5:01pm!
